How we handle
your information
We're a two-person detailing business, not a data company. We collect what we need to quote your car and turn up at the right address, and nothing else. This page says exactly what that is, where it goes, and how to get it back or have it deleted.
Who we are
Southern Detailing NZ, a mobile and workshop car detailing business operating in Christchurch and North Canterbury, Aotearoa New Zealand. We're the people who collect and hold anything described below. You can reach us at mason@southerndetailingnz.com or maddi@southerndetailingnz.com.
What you give us directly
If you fill in the enquiry form, we receive what you typed into it:
- Your name, phone number and email — so we can reply.
- Your suburb — to work out travel, and whether you're inside our area.
- Your vehicle — make and model, because the price depends on size.
- The service you're after and when suits — to quote and schedule.
- Anything you write in the notes — pet hair, no outdoor tap, and so on.
Alongside that, the form records the IP address and browser the message was sent from. We don't use that, and it isn't something we look at — it's automatic spam protection built into the form service.
If you book through the calendar instead, you give the same sort of detail to Cal.com, which runs the booking system, and the booking lands in our Google Calendar.
What is collected automatically
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits. It tells us how many people came, roughly where from, which pages they read, and whether they sent an enquiry. It's aggregate and we can't identify you from it — we use it to work out whether the website is doing its job, not to track individuals.
Our host, Netlify, keeps ordinary server logs including IP addresses, as every web host does. That's a security and reliability function, not something we query.
There are no advertising pixels on this site. We don't run Facebook or Instagram tracking, and we don't sell, rent or share anything with anyone for marketing.
Cookies, and how to refuse them
Google Analytics sets a couple of small cookies to tell a returning visitor from a new one. If you open the booking calendar, Cal.com may set its own.
You can refuse all of it and the site still works perfectly. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings, private or incognito windows discard them when you close the window, and ad blockers or "prevent cross-site tracking" (on by default in Safari) stop the analytics loading at all. Nothing on this site is hidden behind accepting a cookie.
Information that leaves New Zealand
The services we use are overseas, mostly in the United States, so anything you send us is stored there:
- Netlify — hosts the site and receives enquiry form submissions.
- Google — our email, calendar and the analytics.
- Cal.com — the booking calendar.
We've picked established providers who are contractually required to protect what they hold, but we're telling you plainly rather than burying it: your enquiry doesn't stay inside New Zealand.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and bookings stay in our email and the booking system so we have a record of work we've done and can look after a returning customer. If you'd rather we didn't keep yours, ask and we'll delete it. Analytics data is aggregate and expires on Google's own schedule.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong. Email either of us and we'll sort it out — no forms, no process. We'll respond within 20 working days, which is what the Act requires, though realistically it'll be the same week.
If you're ever unhappy with how we've handled your information and we haven't put it right, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. We'd much rather you told us first.
Changes to this page
If we add something to the site that collects information differently, we'll update this page and change the date below. We won't quietly start doing something this page says we don't.
